She graduated from Tallinn 19th Secondary School in 1959 and from Tallinn Film Study Studio in 1963.
Tiia Kriisa worked as a secretary at the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute from 1960 to 1963. Between 1963 and 1993, she was an actress at Pärnu Theater Endla. Later she has been a freelancer.
